Throughout the existence of Crowley there have been many tanneries spread throughout the city. When the high priest came to the city he declared that the tanneries were stinking up the entire city with all of their chemicals and he decreed that there should be only one tannery in Crowley and that it should be located at the farthest part of town – somewhere around the lumber mill (which already stank).
This decree was a perfect opportunity for Gloder Arley and he would be stupid to pass it up. He purchased everyone’s equipment at low prices and built himself a tannery, which he later passed down to his son.
Goldwood Arley runs the tannery much like he runs the lumber mill. However, instead of orcs as labor he uses goblins, and a hobgoblin. They work, eat, and sleep here with the hobgoblin as overseer of his lesser kin. The hobgoblin, Groak, doesn’t really consider himself as a slave, but as a labor boss instead, and he takes great pride in bullying the goblins around – especially in front of Goldwood or other strangers.
The building is a beat up old wood structure. Nasty yellow smoke drifts from a vent in the ceiling. Often hides can be seen stretched on racks on the roof. There is the smell of sulfur and rotting meat all over. Flies can be seen swarming everywhere.
On the north wall is a wooden matted table that holds all of the gory skinning tools. The floor around the table will have puddles of blood around it and bloody footprints going everywhere. Entrails and other body parts are scattered on the floor under the table (along with some choice cuts to be eaten during dinner or brake by the goblins). On the wall over the table is a pegboard holding all of the tools used for skinning. All of the tools are covered in blood and gore.
Near the west wall is a huge vat with a fire under it. The contents of the vat can be heard boiling and gurgling in a thick, muffled sound. The fumes coming off of the vat are terrible and have an acidic feel to it. Anyone looking into the vat will need to make a Fortitude save (DC 13) or be blinded for 1d4 turns + the number that the saving throw was missed by. Example: Dadadard the elf looks into it. He rolls an 10 with a +1 Fortitude so he has a 11. He missed his saving throw by 2. 3 is then rolled so with the added 2 he would be blinded for 5 turns.
Three goblins skin animals at the table and 4 more load furs into the vat and take them back out when all of the fat has been burned off of the hides. Groak is usually watching the skinners pretty closely to make sure that they are not hiding the choice pieces of meat from him.
These wooden racks hold the stretched skins while they dry. There is a pulley system with a crank to lift the racks up through a trapdoor in the roof where they can dry faster in the hot sun. There is usually 2 goblins monitoring this setup. The crank is maintenanced by Klacktoc Gearticker, the gnome maintenance engineer for Goldwood.
There are ten double bunks in this room. They are flea ridden, filthy, there is dried blood all over them, and they smell terrible. At night 1d12 + 4 goblins can be found sleeping in here. There is one torch on the wall that has never been lit. The goblins like to keep it dark in here and use their low light vision to see by.
There are two round, filthy tables in this area. One is covered with refuse from past meals, dried and crusty. The other is spotless. During meal times Groak eats by himself at the spotless table and has the goblins clean his mess up after he eats. The other goblins crowd around their table to eat, or eat while sitting against the wall.
In comparison with the goblin room this room is spotless. Again, Groak has the goblins clean his room for him every evening. The bed even has blankets and sheets, though they are still flea infested and have the goblin stink about them. Groak has 1d20 gp hidden in a hole under his bed.

Often there will be a notice next to the outer gates stating furs that Goldwood wishes to acquire for clients. The price that he will pay all depends on how rare the fur is, or the danger of the animal that belongs to the fur, but the price usually ranges from 5 gp to 200 gp.NPC Listing
